The achievements of the Team from Engineering Faculty students, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) are increasingly boast. Like students who have recently made energy-efficient cars. The three cars are Ababil Evo II, UEV IS Trisula and Bayu Surya. The cars were made by students of the Engineering Faculty who are members of the ECRC (Electric Car Research Center) and Bayu Surya which are a combination of three Study Programs; Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Industrial Engineering.
The oldest car produced is Ababil Evo, a prototype car that is included in the category of electric cars that use battery fuel which has now entered the second generation. Previously, the Ababil EVO I had been included in the Japan contest in 2018 and won the title of best newcomer. The body of the car used from polycarbonate and the chassis was using aluminum with a mixture of iron.
One of the team members explained, The Ababil Evo II car which was contested in the Energy Saving Car Contest by Ristekdikti in Malang was a refinement of the Ababil Evo I made in 2018 ago”. The speed of this car can reach 55 km / hour, and has 350 watts of power. For battery specifications using Li-ion 8.7 AH 48 Volts, charging from empty to full battery takes 4.35 hours. Whereas the UEV-15 Trisula urban class of electricity has a specifications of a 17.5 AH 48 Volt Li-ion battery with charging from empty to full battery takes 8.75 hours. The engine used is the “Brushless Direct Current Motor” with 1,000 watts of power.
In the process of making the car, it reaped obstacles, starting from the materials that had to be imported from outside the city, in making the body also reaped obstacles. However, the most crucial part was the controller which in its manufacture and the trial process often the controller caught fire. However, after being tried continuously, finally the controller that is installed in the car was the most optimal.
