SOLO-Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) continues to improve the quality of its graduates. UMS Rector, Prof., Dr., Sofyan Anif, as the head of the university always monitors the learning development process of his students, including those who are currently taking double degree programs at foreign universities.
UMS double degree program cooperation is carried out with partner universities abroad, including Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, England, and South Korea.
Sunday (28 August 2022) Prof., Sofyan Anif M.Si took the time to visit his students who were taking the Double Degree Program at four universities in Korea, Dong-A University, Dong-Eui University, Youngsan University, and Tongmyong University.
Prof. Sofyan Anif’s trip to Korea was not alone, he came with Vice Rector V, Prof., Supriyono Ph.D., as well as three heads of the BKUI Division (Head of Division), Wijianto, M.Eng.Sc, (Head of International Class Development), Denny Vitasari, Ph.D. (Head of Academic Collaboration); and Fajar Suryawan, Ph.D. (Head of Data Management and Ranking).
”We monitor directly, and provide motivation so that our students who take degree programs in South Korea can graduate on time with maximum results,” said Rector Prof., Dr., Sofyan Anif who was contacted, Tuesday (30 August 2022).
In front of UMS students studying in Korea, Sofyan Anif advised them to graduate quickly and serve their country immediately. The meeting at a restaurant in Busan, Korea on Monday night was very intimate. Of the 27 double-degree students, 18 were present. ”We feel very impressed that the UMS leaders care because the Rector visited us in Korea,” said Candra who studied at Dong-A University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering.
Vice-Rector V, Prof. Supriyono, Ph.D., said that as part of the management of UMS, he is obliged to pump up the enthusiasm of his students who are studying in the country of Ginseng, as well as in other countries. They are UMS ambassadors, as well as Muhammadiyah cadres, so they must be role models for their younger students, as well as the younger generation in general. The ambassadors are expected to be able to compete in the era of a global society.
”Those who study in South Korea, are more advantaged in fighting over the job market. Many Korean industries in Indonesia prioritize prospective workers who have studied in Korea,” explained Supriyono.
Supriyono admits that the negative stigma of Asians regarding workers has not completely disappeared in Korea, because they still view Asian graduates as inferior in quality to workers from Europe and America. “Korean people still think that Europeans and Americans are more qualified.
