The Office of Collaboration and International Affairs (BKUI) UMS organized a Sharing Session on the Chevening Scholarship, featuring Melisa R. Kusuma, Regional Outreach Manager for Central Java & Yogyakarta at the British Embassy Jakarta. The event took place on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the UMS Seminar Postgraduate Building.
The Chevening Scholarship is a UK government-funded program that provides Indonesian students with the opportunity to receive a prestigious scholarship for a Master’s degree in the United Kingdom. Chevening offers fully funded scholarships to individuals with realistic and achievable plans to study for a master’s degree at a UK university, with the aim of fostering positive change. It is the UK Government’s flagship international scholarship program, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office and partner organizations.
This scholarship provides the opportunity to pursue a one-year single degree Master’s program at any university and in any field in the United Kingdom. Through this scholarship, the UK Government seeks to strengthen bilateral relations with over 160 eligible countries, including Indonesia. The scholarship supports individuals who demonstrate leadership potential, an open mindset, and a desire to contribute positively to their communities.
Melisa outlined several criteria for eligibility, including that applicants must be from a designated country, have completed their undergraduate education, possess at least two years or 28,000 hours of work experience, and demonstrate leadership potential. The funding provided to students covers tuition fees, a monthly stipend, round-trip airfare, and additional expenses such as visa fees, health insurance, and other related costs.
