UMS Holds Foreign Student Orientation and International Class 2023

ums.ac.id, PABELAN – Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) held the Orientation for Foreign Students and International Classes 2023, which took place in the Seminar Room of the Siti Walidah Main Building on Thursday, October 5th.

The event was attended by 161 participants, consisting of 35 foreign students from various countries and 126 International Class students. These foreign students will be pursuing their studies at UMS for a certain period.

Wijianto, M.Eng.Sc., the Head of UMS International Program, stated that some of the foreign students are sponsored by UMS scholarships, scholarships from developing country ministries, while others are self-funded.

“There are several activities organized during the orientation for foreign students. In addition to providing information about the Indonesian Language Program for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) and student activities within the UMS community, students are also introduced to immigration procedures, the police, the Student Boarding House (Pesma), health insurance, and various service providers who will provide information to foreign students as solutions in case of any issues during their study period,” explained Wijianto.

He also advised the foreign students to study diligently, avoid causing or getting into trouble, to not inconvenience themselves and others, especially UMS.

Yusra, a foreign student from Morocco, chose to study Chemical Engineering at UMS because UMS offers opportunities for foreign students to study in an international language in the International Program.

“Secondly, all students here (at UMS) are Muslims, so I have no worries about wearing a hijab, performing religious practices, and other matters during my studies,” added Yusra. (Yusuf/Humas)
