Lazismu UMS and BMT Amanah Ummah distributed groceries to COVID-19 the affected community

SUKOHARJO-Volunteers of UMS Movement Against Covid-19 distributed food packages to the community around campus who have been affected by the Corona virus pandemic, Wednesday (04/08/2020). Before carrying out the distribution, the Rector of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) Prof. Dr. Sofyan Anif, M.Sc. gave his remark to the volunteers in the yard of the Institute of Amil Zakat Infaq Shodaqoh Muhammadiyah (LAZISMU) office UMS on Campus 1 Pabelan.

The grocery distribution program was carried out to help economically affected community due to the outbreak of the Corona virus in Indonesia, it included the community around UMS campus. Previously, the Rector of UMS made a policy of transferring rice allowances for lecturers and permanent employees to be distributed to community who were economically affected by the epidemic.

“We support this program, even as the Rector I made a policy that rice allowances for UMS lecturers to be distributed to help the people affected by COVID-19,” Sofyan Anif said after opening the distribution of grocery packages.

“The affected community is not only those who are exposed to the virus, but also affected economically. For instance, people who usually sell goods, today they cannot do the trading activity because they have to do social distancing. Daily workers, informal workers and other workers who do not get income because there are no consumers,” he added.

In line with the Rector of UMS, Mahasri Shobahiya, M.Ag, as the head of LAZISMU UMS as well as the Chairperson of UMS Movement Against Covid-19, said that volunteers will deliver food packages to the door of the beneficiary’s home. This is intended not to cause a large crowd. A total of 804 food packages were distributed today. “The package consists of 5 kilograms of rice, 1 kilogram of sugar, 2 packs of tea, 2 kinds of soy sauce, 2 packs of egg noodles, 1/2 liter of cooking oil, 1 bottle of hand sanitizer, 1 pack of hand soap and a mask,” Mahasri Shobahiya explained.

This movement, said Mahasri, was in collaboration with various parties, such as BMT Amanah Umat, MDMC, Muhammadiyah Department and Branch Leader UMS, and volunteers consisting of UMS students. “We hope that the global Corona virus pandemic will soon disappear. But this movement, Insha Allah, we will continue to help the community until the Corona outbreak ends,” she completed.

Windi Safitri, a housewife who received the food aid, thanked the aid that has been given. “Hopefully this aid can be useful, blessed, and my prayer is that UMS becomes better and better.” (Risqi | Humas)
